SolidWorks Designer/Draftsperson: Level I
Full – Time Position
Job Description:
Based in Albuquerque New Mexico, Thunder Scientific Corp. (TSC), the world's leading manufacturer of NIST-proven, two-pressure humidity calibration systems, has a prospective opening for an experienced SolidWorks Designer/Draftsperson. At TSC, you will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering and design team. Your responsibilities will include creating and revising detailed technical drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks, ensuring that all designs meet industry, customer-specific, and in-house standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and modify 3D models and technical drawings using SolidWorks.
- • Revise and update existing drawings in support of engineering changes and product updates.
- Read, interpret, and implement ISO, ANSI, and ASME standards, and customer-specific requirements.
- Participate in the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
- Be familiar with and participate in the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
- Develop design documentation and technical reports in support of engineering activities.
- Maintain organized and accurate records of design files and documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to develop and refine design solutions.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute feedback toward continuous improvement.
- Assist other departments and support cross-functional tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate degree in Mechanical Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field with a minimum of 2 years of applied drafting or mechanical design experience; OR equivalent professional experience demonstrating competency in a regulated or production manufacturing environment.
- Proven proficiency in SolidWorks as outlined in the Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) exam.
- Experience creating both small and large assemblies.
- Working knowledge of configuration management principles.
- Familiarity with Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
- Strong understanding of applied engineering fundamentals and manufacturing processes as they relate to drafting and design execution.
- Broad knowledge of technology and ability to assess its implications on business strategy.
- Familiarity with iterative prototyping and design workflows.

- Motivated team member who readily accepts and completes tasks in a timely manner.
- Technical capability required of a draftsperson in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred & Beneficial Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, or a closely related applied technical discipline from an accredited institution.
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience with SolidWorks Routing.
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM or any other product data management systems.
- Technical Writing skills, including creation of Work Instructions.
- Familiarity with or interest in additive manufacturing (3D Printing).
Physical Challenges:
- Ability to operate hardware and software supporting the drafting needs of TSC.
- Consistent sitting for many hours at one time (50%+ of normal shift).
- Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
